Assimilation v Integration
In a world more and more plural, Bassam Tabi is wise enough to embrace the concept of integration (more a British legacy, eg England, Canada, US, Singapore, India, Mauritius, Australia etc)rather than that of assimilation (very French). Ataturk was a victim of the Gallic fad. Instead of squeezing our plural identities, we need to be celebrate them. Assimiliate but do not assimilate yourselves pondered Senghor. Sadly however, some of Tabi's nasty words regarding Tariq Ramadan reveal his pettiness. Is he jealous of the popularity of the latter who's ideas ironically are very close to his?
