Whilst somewhat tangential to the discussion at hand, readers may be interested in this article http://www.amconmag.com/article/2009/jan/12/00006/
which discusses the future of the American neo-cons.

More generally it relates to the possible future of multilateralism or, in more Habermasian terms, Kantian cosmopolitanism.

One would hope that the response to the financial crisis will include a reevaluation of the private and public spheres of social life. There are some spheres that are best handled by private enterprise and some that are more appropriately managed by the public sector. What the content of these two spheres will be and the extent to which the private sector needs to be regulated for the common good is the debate that needs to take place.
